UMS is dedicated to creating new and innovative pathways for students to achieve even their loftiest goals. The Bachelor of Science in Aviation and Operations Management (AOM) degree program is designed train new pilots and prepare them to enter the commercial airline industry.
In partnership with Air Direct Airways (ADA), University of Michigan Science's Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Operations and Management (AOM) is designed to leverage both the aeronautical engineering and aviation management expertise within UMS's College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), and ADA's FAA certified Part 141 flying academy.
Curriculum
The AOM curriculum is taught by industry experts with real-world experience. Throughout your coursework and flight instruction, you’ll gain valuable knowledge that will help you understand the mechanics of flight and how to be successful in an industry that continues to take off.

General Education Program

All bachelor's students are required to take general education classes. Through foundation, exploration and integration courses, students learn to think critically, creatively and collaboratively, giving you the edge employers are looking for.

Program Outcomes
- Successfully complete requirements for FAA certifications for Certified Flight Instructor, having completed required private, instructor, commercial and CFI ratings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to succeed as a commercial airline pilot.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and be able to apply the fundamental aeronautical skills necessary to function as a manager in the aviation industry
- Demonstrate an understanding of and be able to use the business tools, skills and concepts to address practical business problems in the aviation industry
- Demonstrate an understanding of and be able to apply aviation safety issues in all problem solving exercises
- Apply mathematics, science, and applied sciences to aviation-related disciplines
- Apply management methodology in identifying and solving management issues
- Communicate effectively, using both written and oral communication skills, as an entry-level manager
